More Seniors at ARHA’s Ladrey Highrise Sign Up for Vaccines

After seeing 90 of their neighbors receive the shots, they now want to take advantage of the offer as well.

(Alexandria, VA – February 26, 2021) – Now that 90 seniors living at ARHA’s Ladrey Highrise have received both doses of the (Moderna) COVID-19 vaccine, more seniors have decided they want the protection as well.

The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) has allocated another 100 first doses to ARHA for seniors. In addition to the remaining residents at Ladrey who want to be vaccinated, ARHA is reaching out to seniors at other sites who have not yet been vaccinated to offer them the opportunity. The clinic will be held in the Community Room at the Ladrey Highrise on March 3 from 1:00PM – 4:00PM.

ARHA serves approximately 370 residents aged 65 and older, between its public housing and Housing Choice Voucher Program. The goal is to inoculate every one of those residents who wants the shot. With next week’s clinic appointments, only a handful of residents at Ladrey will have declined the offer.

Senior Services of Alexandria is working with ARHA to provide free transportation to Ladrey for seniors who need the assistance.

VanDorn Pharmacy, which administered the earlier vaccinations at Ladrey, will again provide the service for this on-site clinic.

“These are the most vulnerable of all of our residents, which is why we are so focused on them receiving the shots,” said ARHA CEO Keith Pettigrew. “It’s heartwarming to see that seniors at Ladrey and other sites who may have been reluctant earlier to receive the vaccine are now eager to have it. I am again grateful to VanDorn Pharmacy for coming out and operating the clinic and to AHD Director Dr. Stephen Hearing for his help and support in this effort.”
